We are not slaves to fate. Fate is our slave.
one fucking word people...

INCOMING!

This was the first success of the Spaceguard program. We saw 2008 TC3 coming. For the first time EVER we saw it coming before it hit us. It was small and exploded before it hit the ground (with a yield roughly that of a 1-2Kt nuke)

Remember this in 50 years when we stick a gigaton nuke to a rocket and send it on a deflection mission to save millions of lives. We're going to have to do it one day and this was a very important first step.

As always, the future is looking better all the time.

I'm not sure how you can possibly say that the future is looking better all the time with the economy the way it is, the state of society and culture rapidly deteriorating and resources that can't keep pace with population growth.

Society and culture is always "deteriorating", it did in the 60's as well, and the 1800's, and the 15th century. It wasn't deteriorating, it just was changing. When the car replaced the horse, there were fewer and fewer horses on the roads, but people didn't say that transport was deteriorating, just that it was changing. Don't confuse change in the current world with deterioration.

Technological development will continue even through a depression, the ground work for most of nuclear physics was developed in the 30's, as well as computer technology. Technological development and pressures are what's driven upwards of 90%+ of human history. When it changes, things get better.

This is after all, the most peaceful point in human history on a per-capita basis bar none, as well as the time with the least poverty. I didn't say things were great yet, but they are definately getting better.

How can the world not be getting better all the time?
