[Politics/"Do As I Say"] Karl Rove Gets SECOND Divorce
Karl Rove, who's been outspoken on the sanctity of marriage and the threat gay marriage poses to it, has been granted his second divorce.

But, see, gays getting married will devalue the institution. Nevermind the fact Jesus was pretty outspoken about his dislike of divorce.

Oh, silly me! I forgot - it only applies to OTHER people.

    When it rains, it pours...
...Except that it's been cloudy since last night, and still no rain.
    It's so hoooot~

I'm glad it didn't rain last night over my picnic, but I wish the weather would break.
I've been feeling blargh and lame all day -____-
Actually, that's not because of the weather at all - completely irrelevant of course ~_~
I think it has to do with my sleeping pattern (Cake has almost fixed it, though) - but holy macaroni, this morning I had a dream that Yuko Ichihara (of Holic) died. If waking up to that isn't enough to put you in a bad mood, I don't know what is.
    (It's disturbing~ and very sad~)
And I missed out on seeing friends today twice over ~_~

So to cheer us all up:

    La Maison en petits
    The House of Small Cubes
    つみきのいえ

A short animated film (12mins) that won an academy award and some other stuff.
    It's quite lovely.
I would say it has thematic elements very much in common with both Up and Ponyo.

    Part1

    Part2

Oh, that wasn't really cheerful at all, was it?
    ~_~

Apparently I am a heartless fiend.
Unlike Teru (from who's blog I read about this film), I did not cry. Nor did I cry at all during Up, which I watched last night.
    Heartless and fiendish, I know.
I did jump and squeal a little in fear during Coraline, however TT___TT
    (It's scary~)

I'm glad I've seen those films, though ^____^ I was dying to see them when they were released in cinemas, but never made it.

So I woke up this morning and I couldn't open my eye.It turns out some bug had bitten me and I've had this huge allergic reaction and my eye is so swollen that my sister helpfully told me I look like an alien and my brothers response when he saw it was 'FUCK!!'

I am soooo not going to work today.

Small discoveries of a wide-- eyed man.
It is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE and REASONABLE to SPEND ALL EVENING MOVING EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOUSE AROUND.

It is GOOD AND PROPER TO BE DOING THIS AT FIVE A.M

IT IS NOT WEIRD TO LISTEN TO TWO HOURS OF JOHN CLARKE AND BRYAN DAWE DOING THEIR INTERVIEWS WHILE YOU MOVE EVERYTHING, GODDAMN IT, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER IS A TERRIFIC FILM AND ACCOMPLISHES MORE IN HALF AN HOUR THAN AVATAR DID IN THREE... there was a time when Shelley Winters was attractive... I believe I have the brain fever. Or at least a head cold. Not quite the same.

John Clarke and Bryan Dawe consisently funny over two decades. Video footage a bit sad in that they age as it goes, upside is that John Clarke can still do a handstand at age sixty- something.

    And now, some DVD reviews:

The Rise and Fall of WCW: You probably have to be excruciatingly interested in professional wrestling to even attempt to watch the documentary that comes with this million- hour box set. It will also help if you don't place any value on editing, unbiased journalism or in- depth accounts of professional wrestling, because none of these things are present. Six concussion victims use the phrase, "It was like the inmates running the asylum" in the space of ten minutes, various men are slandered and then not interviewed, lots of inarticulate gossip occurs. High points include taking the DVD out and wondering what possessed you. The other two discs are a bit tremendous. Sweaty men pretending to hurt one another much more than they really are. Actor David Arquette was once WCW World Heavyweight Champion, which means I'm probably up for the Nobel.

The Night of the Hunter: Genius. Oh, Robert Mitchum, you giant arsehole. Watch out, kids and widows - the most famous hand tattoos in film history are coming to get you! They're going to get you insidiously and with more pleasant singing than you can possibly imagine! Watch out, kids! It's not just murderous priests out to get you, but The Great Depression! Perfect.

Puzzles are where you find them.
On Saturday a friend happened to sit under a veranda ornament that spins in the wind, and it had a fair bash at giving her an impromptu dreadlock before anyone noticed. I think I was the second person to attempt untangling, but we got there in the end. (I used to spend hours detangling balls of fishing line I found on the beach..)

This evening [info]rabbit1080 accidentally dropped a piece of doweling into her sewing machine (she was trying it for size as a replacement thread holder). Between the two of us we managed to find enough screws to undo to pry open a 20mm gap in the underside of the case (she started it!), after which it took some impromptu use of a pair of scissors as tweezers to manipulate the rod around various bits of machinery to get it into a position where it could be withdrawn. That was fun :-)

    Obligatory Avatar review..
..because everyone else is doing it.

So if you are such a Disney fan as I am, plot-wise Avatar is in no way anything special, but if you are a big cinematography / SFX fan as most people seem to be, you’re going to think it is awesome. Also 3d.

While on the topic of 3d, I can now cross ‘watching 3d movies’ off my list of things I am afraid of doing. Strange phobia, some might say, but as a wee little one (yes I was young when 3d film was being invented) I saw a movie about pirates in 3d. It was very scary and yes, the rating of PG would’ve been sufficient if it was 2d, but it wasn’t and I had nightmares about spiders that night.
So anyway, over that fear because yesterday after the trailers (and an advertisement of Alice in wonderland where a grinning cat was RIGHT THERE) the 3dness didn’t bother me all too much. I may even go see another one in 3d.

I also watched doctor who – the end of time (Christmas special) and lets just say that I had to suppress a gasp at the cliffhanger of that episode (will January 2nd not come any sooner?) because woah. And I love love that the master came back, he could be close to my favorite villain of the series and John Simm just does insane!master fantastically. I am also really curious to what’s going to happen with the Donna/Wilfred arc, cause I really like Donna. Even though I wanted to punch her when she first appeared on the show (and wasn’t at all impressed by The Catherine Tate show) she really has grown to be my favorite new-series companion.

    I love this song.

It incorporates some of the best quotes from Sagan, including: "We on earth marvel, and rightfully so, at the daily return of our single sun. But from a planet orbitting a star in a distant globular cluster, a still more glorious dawn awaits. Not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise - a morning filled with 400 billion suns; the rising of the Milky Way."

What kind of artist are you?
Spotted in the pixelling forum at CSDB:

The author's clearly not familiar with graphic novels, and I'm not sure where he'd place people who have Illustrator but not Indesign (a common case I would have thought?), but I'm still amused :)

    So, guess what!

    Another forced hiatus.

    :P

Hopefully not for very long, but my apartment building's water heater exploded and dumped a ton of hot water into my apartment and cooked everything. Or rather, just ruined the cabinets and flooring and some personal belongings. I'm temporarily homeless and all of my supplies and my art computer are in the apartment still. I think the computer was safe, as it wasn't on the floor (close to it, but not on it)

They're replacing everything and I'm staying with friends until everything's fixed up. They were hoping to have it done by the time I was back in Texas (yesterday) but they're not even close. I didn't expect they would be, last week was a bad time to try to get anything like that done.

So, yeah. I'll be still sketching and inking comics but I won't be able to scan, color, post, until I'm back home.

... Sorry. I seem to have unfortunate luck at times.

    old post
    Found this on my desktop.
I guess I'm springsummer cleaning everywhere today.

Awesome TED talk that I mentioned last post, not realising I hadn't actually posted it yet.
Really cool designs for a whole bunch of every-day sort of problems, including inahling the toxins from our furniture, inspiring kids to take respiratory medication and reducing noise pollution around the house.

    Also,

    Guy marries videogame article.
Things that make me mad: same sex couples can't marry in most countries/states INCLUDING THIS PLACE, but some guy can marry a fictional game character.

Also, recently Cake learnt that "impending doom" really is a symptom of heart attack.

    ALSO:
I am going to see The Princess and the Frog on January 1st at Carousel at 4.15pm. Please come join me!

Also, most of us will be in pretty dresses ^_______^ Dress up too!

I recently rediscovered (and started replaying) a ps2 game I have called The Bard's Tale. As I was happily slaughtering away, I thought "Gee, the Bard's voice sounds familiar". I hunted down the manual, and sat there for 5 minutes, just amazed.

    Cary Elwes is the Bard.
    Cary Elwes.
    Westley from The Princess Bride
Robin Hood from Robin Hood Men in Tights
